Monday, December 8th, 2008

This week the podcast gets all fashion-concious with some deep discussions focussing on the fit of Rui Costa’s shirts, coaches’ choice of scarves for benchwear and the way Pedro Barbosa deals with his receding hairline. Apart from this, we also concentrate on two players with opposing fortunes at their respective clubs.

First up, in Part 1, we talk about the downward spiral of Benfica’s goalkeeper Quim, who committed an unforgiveable frango in the final minutes of last week’s important league game against Vitória de Setúbal. Quim was subsequently dropped from the squad and replaced by Benfiquistas’ favourite Moreira, and Benfica went on to win 0-6 away to Maritimo, who had previously had the best defensive record in the league.

In part 2 we talk about the comeback of Simon Vukcevic. The Montenegran forward had been banished to the stands for the past couple of months by Sporting coach Paulo Bento, but through gritted teeth the pair seem to have settled their differences. Vukcevic was brought on as sub for the final 15 minutes of Sporting’s 3-1 win against Estrela de Amadora and he scored with his third touch of the ball.

Also featured are FC Porto and new favourite Hulk, and Leixões, who we fear may begin to drift down the league after losing at Vitória de Guimarães.
